I don't think so, the Fairy type and Ghost Type are so far the rarest in the whole game, and both had a gym.

I'm more inclined to the fact that the Dark type are mostly used to represent the villainous teams.

Mmm I guess. But the villian groups usually use stuff like poison and often normal types. They had dark in Hoenn
Hmm, true. I don't really know, maybe they're just being racist with them.

I think Team Galactic used Stunky a lot, so there's one, and Team Plasma had a shitload of Purrloin/Liepard.
Hell, even Team Flare used Houndour often. So Sans has a point.

Plus, Ice is probably due to the enviornment, since it's hard to traverse in the snow. Seriously, the snow route in Sinnoh was a legitimately difficult route to get through.

Generally, Gyms are saved for types that have lots of glaring exploitable weaknesses, like Rock-type or Bug-type. Dark-type has very few weaknesses, which is why it's generally put in E4 territory. If there was a Dark gym, it would almost certainly be the eighth and last gym.

Reading fan theories about it.

Talk about how Jasmine's steel type pokemon have a lot of weaknesses.
That theory really can't sustain itself.

About the ice type thing, I just don't know, I feel like the ice type just give off a just too awesome vibe to not be there.

Yeah, most the posts I saw just tear each other apart, in the end it seems there's no logical reason they're keeping a dark gym from us.

Btw, now that Clefairy is actually a fairy, the Goldenrod normal type gym's clefairy based design, just doesn't make sense.
