Hi. I noticed a lot of users trying to start their own arena clones and wanted to know what I can do to help. I am thinking about developing an open source arena engine in which anyone can contribute to or extend for their own projects. In terms of my programming experience, I am somewhat experienced in web development; I worked on development in the early stages of Budokai-Arena (now Budokai-Online) and also study computer science in school.

For the basics I would just like to get ideas down. Things would include, what sort of skills should be available for use (e.g unique, counter, etc ... ), number of skills per character, items (WoN style?), and general game mechanics. Essentially what I am trying to do is create a list of requirements to follow for development. I would like others to help on this project by providing ideas, resources such as in-game templates, code, etc... but would first like to gather some interest on the engine in the first place.

If you are interested in this, perhaps comment below? If there is enough interest perhaps this could evolve into a larger discussion thread where we can organize thoughts for this new engine.

Lastly, if anyone has programming experience here I'll be using a javascript canvas library (haven't decided on one yet) and Python's Flask library as the backend web framework + python-socketio as the interface between the client (game) and the backend server. Let me know below if you have experience with either javascript or python and I'll try to get something started soon.

want to know how to do it? make it an app for the phone. I'm dead set serious, Bloons TD battles or whatever, just make it an app. Don't make it naruto exclusive, make it for multiple animes, send it in to a company near complete, make a freaking mint.

Good luck, Hans. Don't think it's at all necessary but good luck nonetheless.

I agree that if they made this game into an app it would do crazy well. Haven't posted in YEARS btw looking forward to getting back to this.

Couldn't agree more.
Naruto Arena as an app for sure has a decent-ish game display and name going for itself.
However, there is a lack of reward and no sustain in Naruto Arena as a game for the phone.

People carrying dead faith believing in huge success for a Naruto Arena app of any sort.

If you transformed it to a modern day game it would do fine. Better graphics with actual characters instead of three boxes with pictures. A pay to win structure with consumables that give you a boost in battle. An energy system so you can only play x amount of battles per day without paying for refills. Organised guild battles and ladder. Characters are unlocked through not only missions but random summons. etc. etc.

It'd be just the same as all these other gacha games getting absurd popularity and money, but since it's based on Naruto, you get a wider audience base and people willing to pay out of their ass to win.
